Frequently Asked Questions

Is premarital counseling the same thing as premarital coaching?

Many couples use both terms to describe the same goal — preparation for marriage. In our work, premarital counseling and premarital coaching both refer to educational, skills-based support to help couples communicate, plan, and grow together.

Is premarital counseling only provided by therapists?

No — while licensed therapy is one way to prepare for marriage, many couples engage in premarital counseling led by trained marriage educators and certified facilitators focused on skills-building and prevention. Our structured program empowers couples with tools for connection, communication, and shared goals without clinical therapy.

How is your premarital counseling different from therapy?

Our coaching approach to premarital counseling is not therapy and is not designed to treat mental health conditions or relationships that are already in crisis. Instead, it is a Mentor Couple-led educational skills-based process focused on communication, conflict, alignment, and long-term relationship success.

Do you work with all backgrounds?

Yes. Couples of all beliefs and backgrounds are welcome.

Can we complete the program online?

Absolutely. The full program is available via Zoom to couples anywhere in Texas. In-person sessions are available in the Austin area.

How long does it take?

Eight one-hour sessions held every one to two weeks for our Premarital Mastery program. Our shorter Essentials program is also available for those wanting a more accelerated course.

Do we get any materials?

Yes. The program includes our complete workbook along with your personalized assessment results and in-session exercises.
